From the highlands of the South American Andes, in the community of Peguche, come garments that embody the living history of a people. The Chachiguando family, from their home workshop, hand-weaves each “Wasi Kura,” or mantle of refuge, using raw alpaca wool, lined with silk, and delicately edged with velvet. These garments not only protect you from the cold but wrap you in the warmth and ancestral wisdom of the Andes.
Each Wasi Kura is a tribute to Pacha, Mother Earth, and to the free, powerful women who walk under her protective mantle. It is a mystical connection to the wind of the mountains and the fire of the volcanoes, which have witnessed the birth of these unique pieces. The intertwined threads carry the memories of those who, for generations, have woven not just clothing, but identity and culture.
